Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Gets An Exclusive YouTube Feature

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip is probably the only foldable phone worth checking out right now, and a new YouTube feature shows why.

Samsung announced a collaboration with Google to make the YouTube app better for the phone’s clamshell design. You can now fold the phone halfway, set it down on a flat surface, and devote the entire upper half to the video. On the bottom half, you can search for other videos, like videos, or write comments.

This is certainly a much better presentation than just cutting the screen in half at the folding point. It will apparently accommodate different aspect ratios too. Widescreen videos will look like the demonstration below, while square videos and vertical videos will fill up the top half of the screen.

They’re calling it Flex mode. According to Samsung’s press release, anyone who has a Galaxy Z Flip can get this flexible new version of YouTube starting Wednesday.

We don’t suspect there are a huge number of Galaxy Z Flip owners given the high price tag of $1,380. If Samsung can get the price down and keep adding exclusive features like this, foldable phones might just have a future.

LG Velvet Phone Fully Revealed In New Video

lg velvet phone fully revealed in new video
LG

LG has announced a smartphone that embodies a new philosophy for the brand. The first thing that has been changed is the naming scheme. Instead of using alphanumerical designations, the company has moved towards familiar and expressive names. Hence, the new phone is called LG Velvet.

LG Velvet is also different in terms of design, with clean lines, symmetrically curved edges, and the “Raindrop” triple camera on the back.

Not everything has been revealed: we still don’t know all the official specs. But the video confirms a rumor that said the Velvet is a 5G phone with a mid-range Snapdragon 765 chipset, which should make it powerful enough for most users, and yet cheaper than the top flagships currently in the market.

Since the video shows the LG Velvet from all sides, we see that LG still hasn’t given up on the headphone jack – an increasingly rare feature on phones these days (but we’re glad it’s still there).
